Why I Don't Love Food Sensitivity Testing

“You’re allergic to nightshades.”

“Avoid tomatoes at all cost.”

“Don’t eat high FODMAP foods like watermelon and celery that will flare your SIBO.”

Sound familiar?

This was my reality for far too long. I was avoiding all the foods on my high-dollar food sensitivity test yet I was not healing, in fact my symptoms were getting worse.

At some point my healing journey I started to get so frustrated with “listening to what the doctors said” and ignoring my own bodily urges for foods I was CRAVING that would heal me. All I could think about were onions but my practitioner said to fear the bloat they would cause. Now I know, this bloat was coming from sulphuric gas releasing as pathogens were dying off.

I remember when my body was literally begging for fresh salsa or just a bite of a stewed tomato. But I was instilled with the fear of God when it came to nightshades, because these vegetables I had consumed throughout my entire life all of a sudden one day became the root cause of my inflammation right? WRONG. Since I wasn’t getting any better, I finally said, screw it; what the heck?!

I gave in and went crazy on some fresh salsa. Most definitely my eczema on my face begin to crack news and my joints hurt worse than the day before. But it was like I could feel something inside me shift, and inside my spirit knew these foods were actually healing me.

I just couldn’t believe that a perfect pure produce was making my inflammation worse.

Not giving a rip, I started eating more and more tomatoes…

As I did this, every time I noticed my eczema would flare and get a little worse, but the next day or two later it would look slightly more healed. The same happened with my joints. The swelling would get worse for a couple of days, then heal to a new level of reduced inflammation several days later.

Eventually, I came across medical medium information and alternative nutritional therapy articles that claimed these foods are actually not allergenic but rather create intense healing reactions in the body. I felt like I had been set free. I was also deeply grateful my body spoke louder than any dogma that attempted to deter me from healing.

“The tomatoes I have been told to avoid we’re actually moving my limp and cleansing my body of chronic illness. The watermelon I have been forbidden was actually blasting the gut bugs right out of my small intestine.”

That is why I don’t love food sensitivity testing. It is not a gold standard for understanding which foods do and do not do well in the healing body. Across-the-board there are foods that should not be consumed while healing. Across the same board there are foods that absolutely should be incorporated while healing. Maybe you cannot yet tolerate these incredibly powerful foods today but bit by bit as you heal they are pivotal to incorporate into your diet! A knowledgeable, nutrition focused, practitioner can help you use food as medicine to heal and begin incorporating alternative healing strategies so that one day soon high fodmaps don’t bloat you to 6 months pregnant and tomatoes don’t make you feel arthritic.

Instead of relying on a food sensitivity test for your healing compass, work with a knowledgeable nutrition-focused practitioner that could help guide you using food as medicine to abundant health and vital quality of life! There could be so many life changing foods you’re led to avoid simply because you’re not aware. Rule of thumb: nature will heal, allow an abundant variety of plants to heal your most complex chronic conditions.♥️
